| Welcome to John's Photographs of Colorado Vacation Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado - June xx, 2001
Day One Continued, Hiking the "moderate" rated Emerald Lake Trail. With the trail head at Bear Lake (elevation 9,475feet / 2,800 meters), you progress to Nymph Lake (0.5 miles / 0.8 km & 225' / 68 m elevation rise) this lake is covered with lily pads as seen below. You then you proceed to the alpine setting of Dream Lake (1.1 mi / 1.8 km & 425' / 129 m) with views of Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain. Finally the end of the trail at Emerald Lake (1.8 mi / 2.9 km & 605' / 184 m) located in a rocky basin with steep rocky walls. Several shots looking back down the valley you can see the trail head at Bear Lake, giving perspective of the rise in elevation and distance traveled on the trail at each of the stops. The breath-taking views were well worth getting off the road for. There were few people along the trail who ventured to the upper trails, unfortunately they really missed some spectacular scenery. Hope you enjoy viewing these pictures. |
