People pictured below from the 2002 festival were Roger Hellesvig a Historical Interpreter from Historical Murphy's Landing, in Shakopee, MN presented his Norwegian Immigration Trunk Show, Pols Machine where some local Fiddlers from Austin, Texas. Scandia from St. Augustine, FL consisting of Anders Bakke, accordionist, and Rick Weidley, electric fiddle, played traditional Scandinavian music; Jarle Fjeldheim and his Button Box from Norway Durspill over alle grenser Diatonic Accordion beyond all bounds; the Norwegian Society of Texas Leikarring folk dance group from the Dallas Fort Worth area; the Society for Creative Anachronism from San Antonio, Texas; Britt Louise O'Grady Story Teller - about Tomtars and Trolls - appeared on stage as a Troll Mom and Street Squeeze .... From the speakers series in Heritage Hall, pictured are Charles Whitenberg - Vikings and Celts; Sandra Ballif Straubhaar PhD - Viking Mythology: Gods and Heroes of the Codex Regius; Patti Jones Morgan - Author of Book: Island Soul: A Memoir of Norway; Vera-Elisabet Littlejohn PhD - who talked about Viking Women. Sunday morning Lutheran service in the Fest House was lead by Pastor George V. Reswik - Retired Lutheran Pastor (ELCA) Senior Pastor - Triumphant Love Lutheran Church, Austin, TX - 1987-2000.
On the grounds there was games for young and old including Kubb (Block Game), beautiful Nordic arts and crafts boths and to start it all off was the "Ankomst parad - Parade of the Countries" - this the most colorful event of the entire festival. Everyone in their native costume, music and singing and some definate "Flag-Waving!!"
In Heritage Hall there were demonstrators of Viking Art! Among those pictured were: Patricia Hewitt - Spinning and Weaving; Rod Jackson from Temple, TX - Chain Mail Crafter; Mary Ellen Kiely from Round Rock, TX - Krumkake Baker; and Jan Faubion from Georgetown, TX - Straw Figures Hope you enjoyed viewing the pictures. |
