Universal Pictures' Friday Night Lights

Ratliff Stadium; Odessa, Texas - March through April 2004

Odessa became a movie set location as the producers wanted to film at Ratliff Stadium the home of the Permian Panthers which the book "Friday Night Lights" was written about. The book chronicals the 1988 season of Odessa Permian High School football team. Preliminary shooting was done in Austin, and the championship was filmed in Houston's Astrodome.

Pictures below were of my time on the set as an extra. The first day was spent in the tent with 100 or so other extras waiting for our shot at fame and fortune. The next two days were actually spent on the set as the daytime scenes of pre-season were shot. Following was the beginning of the night shoots of the games. On "Day 6" was my time to let loose and be myself, a Midland Lee Fan! The following night a real "Friday Night", playing a Lee trainer, I was interviewed for possible inclusion in the DVD Extras. "Day 8" was a night where thunderstorms and tornado warnings made for an interesting and unique evening. After the filming in Houston they needed some more shots and had another evening at Ratliff, this time we all played fans for each school (Odessa Permian, Midland Lee, Marshal Bulldogs, and Abilene Cooper) changing cloathes in place in the bleachers.

The Universal Studio's picture is do for an October 17th release. Hope you enjoy viewing and it makes you interested in seeing the movie. If your interested in a CD of the pictures let me know.
